Brett Wheat-Simms
Brett Wheat-Simms is a Council member and Academic Mentor for New Stoa. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and lived in Phoenix, Arizona, before moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has spent the last 13 years living in Oklahoma City, the most recent 7 of which have been spent with his wife, Amanda and their six felines.

Brett works for the global food service and integrated facilities management company, Sodexo. He has held numerous positions with Sodexo, including dishwasher, supervisor, unit manager, and general manager. His current role takes him to 10 southern/gulf states where he serves as Operations Support Manager in over 150 universities, colleges and private high schools.

Having grown up in difficult circumstances, he’s come to appreciate the stability and peace of mind that comes from practicing the Stoic lifestyle. With degrees in philosophy, religion, and human resources, he’s spent years searching for the ‘meaning of life’ in oriental and atheist philosophies, only to return to the western Stoic tradition.

Since first reading Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations some 10 years ago, he has been drawn to the Stoic lifestyle of virtue, equanimity, and service to others.
