The Stoic Council is made up of individuals drawn from the Stoic community who are dedicated to serving that community. We are a working council, not a discussion group, and our actions are guided by the goals that are listed below. We come together one week bimonthly via group email to organize, coordinate, and further the actions of the Council. You may be eligible to become a Councilor if you agree with our goals and wish to become a leader of the Stoic community. Please read the following and Contact Us if you wish to consider the matter further.
- Leadership identification, preparation, and experience.
- Quality control and coordination of Internet web sites.
- Expanding membership of the Stoic community.
Becoming a Councilor is a two-step process. First, you must apply and be accepted as a member of the Stoic Council. Application for membership requires that you be 25 years of age or older and a member of the New Stoa community. You must also read The Stoic Handbook and complete a 20-question, open-book exam. For exceptionally well-qualified applicants the Handbook requirement may be waived.
Then, once you are accepted as a member, you will enter a one-year Internship Program. Each intern will join one of several ongoing projects according to the most pressing needs of the Council. Members with special talents or training may request their own assignments or create a new project if deemed appropriate by the Council. At the end of the internship, the application of the member to become a Councilor will be reviewed with the following three criteria taken into consideration:
- The character of the applicant.
- The quality of participation.
- The contribution made as an intern.
